my homecoming dance is this saturday and i really want to curl my hair but my hair is naturally straight and curls don't stay in for very long. i'm looking for tips on how to keep my hair curled and also, if you're an asian female, how do you curl your hair? with a curling iron or hot rolls or what? and do you use hairspray or mousse?I'm Asian and i'm looking for tips on curling my hair?
Personally, I have naturally curly hair. However, my best friend has hair just like yours--it doesn't hold curl well, but I still get it to curl for dances.

i was in da same situation as u, and yes i am azn and yes i do have dead straight hair tat doesn't budge even when i try to scrunch it or curl it, well, if u want it perfect then go to a salon lik toni and guy to get it professionally done, but if u wanna do it urself, do this: go to ulta, go get da waver from bed head (just ask for it, its purple and big, and its 50 bucks) or if u want it actually curly instead of wavy, get da 1 or 1-1/2 inch curler (also from bed head), go to wal mart or target, get da john frieda frizz ease hair spray (tat thang is a miracle) and get any type of curling mousse tat smells good. when u do it, part ur hair and do it in 2 inch sections, put hair spray on da strand of hair before u curl/wave it, and right after u curl it, put hair spray on it again. when u have done all ur hair, put a bit of mousse in it. o yea by da way, go easy on da hair spray, cuz john frieda stays, and u don't want ur hair feelin lik a rock :] good luck sweetie and god bless!
put hairspray on each your hair only each part you want to curl. use curling iron. big size curling iron for long and medium lenght hair and small size iron for short hair. i'm guessing you have a long hair coz you want to curl it.
after curling, put hairspray all over your hair to keep the style.

Curling your hair with out a curling irons or a hair dryer is it possible?

You can get a crimped look if you braid you hair into small brades when it is wet, let it dry, when you take it out it will looked crimped.

i have naturally curly hair, but i like the way big curls made with a curling iron look on people with straight hair. i've tried curling my hair with a curling iron and i've tried straightening it first and then curling it, but the curls fall flat either way and it looks like i just screwed up trying to straighten it. I am going to a military ball tomorrow and have bought a cute head band to put in my almost shoulder length straight all one length hair. Sounds like you have the curling iron backwards. That happened to me before.
simply put your iron on a lower setting...and hold it in your hair longer...if you have crimp marks at the end... you are not going ALL the way to the ends of your hair before you start whirling it back to your scalp... make sure you go ALL the way to your ends 8)

Undo the curler and then DO NOT touch the curl (finger comb, etc) until you finish your whole head. Give the curl time to set. Then, style as usual. Go out and buy some sponge rollers,this will create more waves in your hair and then you won't have to use an iron,hope this helps you out.
I used to use a technique called the rag n doll! This should give you perfect ringlets with no damage.

OK, well with minimal time and minimal details about your hair type, this is my best advice.
Put your hair in sections and pony each one. Work one section at a time.

2. Apply a styling serum/cream/spray to your hair before putting the curling iron on it.
3. When you begin curling, comb out a half inch by 3 inch section of hair and clamp the hair mid-way through the strands. The curler should be at about a 45 degreee angle.
4. Pull the curling iron to your ends and then curl your hair up to the root.
5. Hold the curling iron in that position for 10-15 seconds. Let your hair fall. If you didn't get any curl, then do it again and hold it for longer. Figure out how long it takes your hair to curl.
You should be able to do that through your whole head. The only additional note is that when you get to the hair right next to your face, start paying attention to what direction you are curling your hair in. I'd advise that you curl away from your face to achieve the wind-swept look.
AND IF YOUR HAIR SMELLS LIKE IT IS BURNING, THEN STOP and reset the curler to a lower setting!!!
my hair is naturally wavy. not like super wavy tho. just a few waves. waht i do is when i get out of the shower, DONT BRUSH YOUR HAIR, you will never get it even close to wavy/curly if you brush your hair. then scrunch it really good with gel or mousse. then get like 6 ruber bands and twist your hair up into buns all over your head and spray it with a good amount of hair spray. leave it in for 30-45 minutes then take it out gently and dont brush it at all. just keep scrunching it everynow and then with hair spray till it is dryish. i do this and it really works (: heres a video- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLHcVeyd5

They've sold them for ages, and I still have mine. It won't damage your hair, from heat and no chemicals.
You could use hot hair curlers.They work like a charm. Or after you shower, brush your hair, put a little gel in it, scrunch it, and then blowdry it upside down! :] I do it, and it makes my hair very wavy and curly, too.

It's impossible to keep burning your hair without damaging it. You can try some heat protectant spray, I like TRESemme. You could get trims every few weeks, that also helps your hair grow faster. Try deep conditioners, at the salons they have great ones. And don't shower your hair everyday, leave your hair ironed for a few days to minimize hair damage.
Side note: If you iron your hair all the time and curl it, why don't you just get the keratin treatment. Your hair will look amazing without the heat damage.
Well i used to have realy damaged hair but they just came out with a new straightner called bio- ionic u can it for $90 at amazon but its a one pass straightner so as many times a u use it it will not damage your hair!i thought i was a ripp ff then i got it and will never use a nother straightner ever again so continue to use that staightner as ur hair gets healthier hope i hepled!

Curling my hair??! How long...?
Okay.. so I've tried using a curling iron to curl my hair but it just wont work. Unless I go to a salon the only way it stays is if I use the ';sleep-in'; curlers. Tomorrow I'm going to my boyfriends dance and I wanna curl my hair but I don't want to go to school with my hair curled. What I have found that helps is to put about a dime sized amount of gel in my hair and some mousse, then blow dry it until it is barely wet. After that, you can wrap it up in curlers for an two or three hours. Make sure your hair is completely dry before you take the curlers out. As you pull them out, spray each strand with a strong hold hairspray.

You can speed up the process by drying your hair with the curlers in with a hair dryer but the hair has to dry completly!!! Or you can wash your hair the day before go to school come home coat it with mouse or hair spray then use hot curlers if you have them. The key to getting your hair to hold curl is it has to be a little dirty meaning the oils need to build up a little and the hairspray and mouse helps.

How to stop my curling iron from leaving indents?
When i curl my hair with an iron, in the mouth part(i hope you know what i mean, the part you *clamp* your hair in so it holds it in place while you twist the rest of your hair around the barrel.)

okoay the truth about curling irons is that to make the hair stay in the curl you need to use hair spray and use intense heat. Mix the two and you have major hair damage. But at the same time if you want those crispy curls youll get at the salon the curling iron is the way to go.
On the other hand, if you want softer more natural curls (with less damage) shower with your regular shampoo and air dry your hair to where its still a little damp. Use a little bit of a lite gel or scrunching curling gel on your hair and use curlers before going to bed. okoay the truth about curling irons is that to make the hair stay in the curl you need to use hair spray and use intense heat. Mix the two and you have major hair damage. But at the same time if you want those crispy curls youll get at the salon the curling iron is the way to go.
On the other hand, if you want softer more natural curls (with less damage) shower with your regular shampoo and air dry your hair to where its still a little damp. Use a little bit of a lite gel or scrunching curling gel on your hair and use curlers before going to bed. when you style your hair with a round brush, always remember, never try to blow dry and style it when its really wet! towel dry your hair... until its a little damp. First put some sort of styling product, like moose all over, not too much though.Clip up your hair half up... the bottom half then you clip that in half.. till you have about an inch section to blow dry... you should blow dry with the brush curling under, or out whichever style is desired... keep doing each section until you are finished... drying from root to bottom in curling motion... Have you tried blow drying it first, then using the curling iron? It worked for a co-worker of mine who has stick straight hair. She also used a curling serum while her hair was wet prior to blow drying.
You can get your hair permed, which definitely helps to hold a curl but if you want to style it you will still have to use curlers. I have had my hair permed twice which helped my hair alot, as i style my hair in a 1940's style.

Have you tried blow drying it first, then using the curling iron? It worked for a co-worker of mine who has stick straight hair. She also used a curling serum while her hair was wet prior to blow drying.
You can get your hair permed, which definitely helps to hold a curl but if you want to style it you will still have to use curlers. I have had my hair permed twice which helped my hair alot, as i style my hair in a 1940's style.

You just need to wash your hair and while it's still wet, braid it in a simple way.Leave it overnight and the next morning, when you are going to have naturally wavy hair! The tighter you braid it, the more wavy it will become. I have very long hair (upto my waist) and I do that to have wavy hair because it's too tiring for me to use a curling iron, and I don't want to damage my hair as well..

I have very straight, just-below-the-shoulder length hair. Each time I try to curl it (either with curlers or a curling iron), only the bottom will get a slight wave. Towel dry your hair so its damp. Apply gel with a scrunch motion. Gather up your hair and ';squish'; it in your hands up and down. Then apply some mousse and do the same motion. Take the hairties and section your hair into three sections, scrunch the hair up into a little knot. Repeat so you have three sections. Hairspray it in place. Chill out for a little bit, watch some tv, put lotion on, etc. After about 15 or so minutes. Let your hair down and keep scrunching. Blowdry it with the diffuser scrunching section by section. Hairspray, but not too much. When you are done you should have a big scrunchy mane. Put it up lightly in a bun and sleep on it. In the morning, it should be super scrunchy. yeah crunching spray is great but honestly i recommend the curling iron if you have really soft hair like mine or another good way is to use hair conditioner while your hair is a little wet that is not an efficient way but sometimes work but if i want to have little waves and curls in my hair i usually take a shower and braid my hair really tight and after a couple of hours i remove the braid in my hair and i have curls in my hair.

But remember, if you want it to STAY like that for the rest of that day you need to use something like hairspray to hold it into place.
for smaller, tighter curls, you could just twist your hair into little buns all over your head when its damp . although it REALLY uncomfortable to sleep with though :(

well this is what i have my mom do to my hair that doesnt fry ur hair ok. just go ahead and take a thin towel like those princess ones, and use a cloths iron to strighten it and for ur hair it would make it wavey.
you can buy a curl enhancer, or just like a gel/muse, then you apply it to wet hair and scrunch it then you can either just dry with a diffuser, or you can take random sections and curl around your finger all through your hair and still scruch while drying with a diffuser, Hope I helped!

hmm, looks like we have a situation. When it is wet, I would try to spritz on some de-tangler and comb through it then add some mousse to crimp and tease with your hands. Use a diffuser as your scrunch it up then before it completely dries, try to add some finger curls.

I've found that if I do that my curls stay in better and longer. Also, if that doesn't work then you could use mousse, or mega hold hairspray.
To just get a wave, put your hair in a braid overnight. I do this almost every night. The more wavy you want it..the more braids you put in. Also...french braids work really well!
go to the hair dresser and tell her to wash your hair then put rollers in it and then when its done drying in the dryer, let her take them out and then let her blow dry it and she can do this special thing where she rolls up your hair piece by piece and pins it. Then when you take out the pins your hair is beautiful and wavy and it stays in. It worked for me!

(the number depending on how wavy you want your hair. i would probably recommend about eight or so) then you just take them out in the morning and just brush the top of your hair. you can use hairspray, but i usually dont need it, but then again, my hair holds waves really well......
and if you shower in the morning, scrunch your hair with mousse and it looks pretty good but might get a little frizzy.
and as for just regular hairstyles, i would try sidebangs or whispy bangs instead of thick ones......dont know about the cut i might have to see the shape of your face, sry....
you can also do buns, because they are pretty in, or low pigtails, but you might be a little old for them, but my sister in college looks cute in them so i dont know.....
as for hairbands, very cute and in!!! definitely!!!
u could wear your hair half-up, leaving your bangs down.....

Take a hair pin and pin it to your head. Work through the rest of the hair. Remember, if your hair is hard to curl, after you curl each section, use a little bit of hair spray to make sure it stays in place. After you finish curling your hair, do one final spritz of hair spray against all of your hair. I find this the easiest and most easy-going hair style. Have fun at your dance! You should do a left or right side part (you choose) and then french braid your chin-length bangs back and then secure with a flower clip. How do you keep long hair healthy when you curl it everyday?
I curl my hair with a curling iron daily and i always use tresemme heat tamer spray for heat protection but the ends still get split and are very dry so i always end up having to get a haircut when i want to grow it out longer. My hair is colored with lots of layers.(It's also pretty thin as well) What else do i need to do? Are there any other products i'll need? please and thank you! curling your hair daily is one of your problems. the heat is very damaging to your hair, because it drys out the moisture in your hair. try using rollers in your hair at night. have somebody roll them in for you while your hair toweled dry/wet, and use clips to hold them in place. yes it will be hard for you to sleep but there is no damage to it or use a blow dryer on low, its less more damaging than the iron. and you wouldn't have to cut your hair as much. but also getting your hair trimmed every 4-8 weeks is good for your hair. using a salon shampoo is also good to.
I would use Aveda Style Prep Smoother. If that weighs down your hair too much then try Aveda Damage Control.
If you want a heat protectant thats really going to work then you need to get it at a salon.

I dont know how you burn your hair. Try buying a curling iron with a variety of heat settings. You dont try to curl it when it is still damp do you? I know you can really damage your hair that way.

You need to turn down the heat on your iron or get one with adjustable heat settings. Not everyone needs the iron on high!!! Actually most girls don't. I hope this helps!!
I have once read that some Hollywood hair stylist actually use the disposable roll inside the toilet paper instead of rollers to get soft curls

i have hair too the middle of my back or longer and i straighten my hair at least 3 times a week and curl it and i use redken smoothdown,heatglide or charles worthington from walmat and they work great you cant even tell i style my hair the redken you can get it at any hair salon good luck

I do suggest, however, that you invest in a new pair, because soon those damaged ends will continue to move up the shaft of your hair and it will be short because of dead ends or short because you had to cut it off.

I dont know how you burn your hair. Try buying a curling iron with a variety of heat settings. You dont try to curl it when it is still damp do you? I know you can really damage your hair that way.

You need to turn down the heat on your iron or get one with adjustable heat settings. Not everyone needs the iron on high!!! Actually most girls don't. I hope this helps!!

I like curling my hair a lot and making it different than straight but not fancy. Just like an everyday thing. Sometimes I braid it but it never looks really curly. If you don't like the idea of sleeping with rollers in, you can buy special rollers that you put on a tray sort of thing and they heat up from the water that you have to add to the tray and curl your hair by the heat and steam and they wont damage your hair nearly as much as a curling iron.Good luck with your healthy hair. :)

Leave your hair damp, braid it into one huge braid. Wait for 5 minutes, unbraid and dry.
Well, you can get a smaller curling iron '1/2 inch or so will make some kind of curls. But for waves, you can make a mix of salt and water and put it in a spray bottle. Misting your hair will help it wave up. Scrunch it a bit, and spray lightly. That may be the most wave your straight hair will get. Smooth shirley temple curls aren't going to happen unless you get a perm.

but some curl-enhancing gel, curl-enhancing mousse, and some hair spray
spread the gel through your hair
flip your head over and scrunch your hair to the top of your head and tossle it a bit
use the mousse at the ends of your hair
when your done spray on the hairspray to hold the style and let it dry
i would suggest that next time you go to the hair dressers, (especially the hair cuttery), you ask your stylist, because i went there today, and my hairstylist helped me figure out products that would improve the quality of my hair, as well as allow me to style it however i would like to.
But if hair curlers don't float your boat, maybe try washing your hair, then putting a light mousse or hair spray in it, and putting it up in actual curlers while you sleep, so in the morning, you might get the desired result, and if not, then you could wash it out

after you like take a shower before yu go to bed braid your hair. if yu want tinier waves put more braids and if you want bigger waves put your hair in one braid and take it out in the morning.

when you get out of the shower, brush out all the knots..
take some gel and run it through your hair (not alot at ALL tho)
and then flip upside down and use more gel, scrunch it up in your hair..then use the diffuser on your hairdryer on it (while upside down)
until it seems pretty much dry, then flip it back up, place it where you want it, and put a little hairspray in it.
if u do it properly it wont look like u have gel OR hairspray in your hair. i did that today actually lol

and then after lunch at school, I took it out and it was curly, and I didn't even plan it! In looked really nice and natural. You could do it to but maybe over night, or when you get up in the morning you could do it then at some point during the day you can take it out. Hope it works (and helps!) Good Luck!
