How to stop my curling iron from leaving indents?

When i curl my hair with an iron, in the mouth part(i hope you know what i mean, the part you *clamp* your hair in so it holds it in place while you twist the rest of your hair around the barrel.)



When i do that it leaves an indent and looks bad. It mostly happens with my big one (like 1 1/2 inch)



So any tips or tricks on how to stop that?How to stop my curling iron from leaving indents?
When you are curling your hair start at the root and then gently pull the barrel to the ends the very ends and then start curling up and you'll have no awful indents.
