I wrote a nice long thorough answer, and then Yahoo lost it.

Basically, you start at the roots and rotate the iron (keeping it in that position) and allow the hair to feed between the blades of the iron. Keep the iron rotating! When the ends disappear inside, hold it for a moment... and the slowly withdraw the iron, keeping the curl in place. Clip the curl in place. Allow to cool fully before removing the clips and finishing the styling.
Here's the deal: depending on what type of hair you have, these styles may be easy, difficult, or nearly impossible to achieve without the help of a professional. I have long, straight, fine hair so it is hard to curl. However, if you have this problem, there are products you can buy to make your hair curl better, or even try spraying each curl with hairspray as you go about curling your hair.

Curling your hair should not be too difficult.

1. You grab a strand of hair, depending on the size you want the curl to be, would determine how large of a strand to pick. Remember that the smaller the strand, the tighter the curl you will get.

2. Take the curling iron, position it at the bottom of the strand, at the ends.

3. Turn the curling iron in a vertical position ( to get a spiral curl)

4. Hold for about 3 seconds.

5. Release hair from curling iron, but do it in a downward motion and clamping the iron open and shut as you go, this creates a better curl.

Hope this helps! :)
