On a scale of 1-5 how bad is blow drying your hair compared to styling your hair with a curling iron?

On a scale of 1-5 how badly damaging is blow drying your hair, compared to a curling iron?On a scale of 1-5 how bad is blow drying your hair compared to styling your hair with a curling iron?
Blow drying is a 5, curling is a 2, hate to break it to you ladies!

Blow drying hair is bad for it, far worse than straightening is! Blow drying hair removes 90% of hair's moisture, leaving it dry, brittle, and prone to damage. The outside layer of the hair shaft is called the cuticle and is like shingles on a roof. You want this layer to lay flat down, but a blow dryer blows it open. This means that your hair's natural oils that keep it healthy are sucked out when you shampoo. This causes breakage more than anything short of chemicals. Straightening/curling may rip at the cuticle a little, but it is nothing compared to how bad a blow dryer is, it only removes 10% of moisture. Most people blow dry and straighten/curl, then blame all of the damage on the iron because they do not understand how hair works, it isn't just the heat! But if you are stupid enough to have your iron above 200 degrees you are going to have a lot of breakage, and you have no one to blame but yourself. On a scale of 1-5 how bad is blow drying your hair compared to styling your hair with a curling iron?
Everything amber marie said is wrong! She may be a stylist but she is the one who doesn't understand hair. Everything she said could have only been made up by her because none of that nonsense would have been taught by any cosmetology classes!

Blow drying is ALWAYS better than using a hot iron! It's common sense! The damage is done by heat, not by the blowing air. Ionic dryers actually make hair shinier by encouraging the cuticle to lay down smooth. Don't over dry it though, only blow dry until the hair is dry.

If you're really worried about damage, it's always a good idea to use a heat protectant. Those will help with the heat from blow drying as well as irons.

Oh, and shampoo doesn't ';go into'; the hair. It cleanses the outside so it doesn't ';suck out'; moisture! The only thing that will swell the hair shaft enough for anything to get into it is chemicals. Water and heat lift the cuticle a little bit and excessive heat will damage the cuticle.

To answer your question....compared to using irons, blow drying would be a 1. Compared to doing nothing, blow drying would be a 2 or 3 maybe.
it is not as bad because it is not direct. if ur worried about the damage then u should get some heat protecting hair damage spray i have it and it works pretty well. u can get it at a grocery store like freddys and for some reason it smells great also.

like i said its not direct so u could say its obout 3 out of 5 or somewhere around there. hope i helped!!!!!!!!!!!
Blow drying your hair is better for your hair, curling applies a lot of heat. I wouldn't do either. but if you had to choose, blow drying is a lot better
